hangin’ with mr. tea, or, a warm tale for a cold winter’s day

Mr. Cornelius and I have a new friend in the Alphabet Soup kitchen. His name is Mr. Tea, and so far, he’s taught us that:

  1. It’s socially acceptable to take your pants off in public.
  2. It’s also socially acceptable to wet your pants.
  3. Another name for tea infuser is “Hot Pants.”

Come along on Mr. Tea’s first adventure. So many cups, so little time!

Mr. Tea arrived in a Christmas stocking and immediately stole our hearts.

Cornelius envied Mr. Tea’s ability to be in two places at the same time.
He could hang on just about anything he wanted.
He made all kinds of fussy tea paraphernalia — strainers, t-balls, and bags — obsolete and totally unnecessary.
Now to find just the right cup. Nope. Too much barking!
The cats ignored him.
Yay, alphabets! If only that blue cow’s butt wasn’t stuck in the cup.
Are you kidding me? I’m a TEA MAN!

Get out of there, Cornelius, before you get wet!
I hear Alice knows all about tea parties. But the writing in this cup makes me dizzy.
Why yes! I’m both elegant and radiant!
But Yikes! Don’t want ants in my pants.
Zzzzzzzz
What’s that yellow thing in the cup? I’m a serious Tea Man. No monkey business for me.
Too political.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. (Can you tell I’m not a morning person?)
Now you’re talkin! I love hangin’ with the Prez!
Time to get ready. Just open your favorite stash of tea.
Fill my pants with a teaspoon or two.
Lower me into the hot tub. Ta da! That feels so good!
Looks like I’ll be hangin’ around here for quite awhile.

Is he adorable, or what? He’s the perfect tea time companion and always so laid back.

Tips: He works better with larger cut loose tea — unless you don’t mind little tea bits leaking from his pants. (Hold onto your strainer.) His pants can be turned inside out for washing. He’s quite well behaved and loves to be read to. Enjoy! 🙂

Get your Mr. Tea here.

Happy National Hot Tea Month!

    1. Glad you like Mr. Tea, Jill. I’ve been collecting cups for many years and can’t really remember where I got most of them. For awhile, my focus was on dishes with writing/words on them. I like to “read” my china while I’m eating :).

I think the “Votes for Women” cup and saucer came from a museum shop. Alice in Wonderland is from a tea set, the alphabet one is actually a soup bowl from Anthropologie, the ant cup was a gift, blue polka dot from Pottery Barn.

  1. I needed a laugh this morning! Your Downton Abbey post on scones and such sent us to a tea room in Culpeper this weekend. Now I want to collect tea cups! I *love* your collection. Thanks for showing them off! Mr. Tea? He’s a stitch! I’ll probably slog through the snow to our shop that sells tea stuff.

    1. You always find the best tea rooms. I’m disappointed we didn’t visit Pinkadilly before they moved. The quaint atmosphere is such an important part of the overall experience.

      1. I don’t know why I wrote Mr. Pants and not Mr. Tea! Well, I can see why, but I don’t know why I did that. Good thing Mr. Tea’s not offended. 😉

  2. Thank you for the smiles. I was ready to give Cornelius a lecture when he sniffed at the Votes for Women cup, but when I saw him pat the president on the back I figured it was just a temporary thing. And he turned from Curious George, too, which was hard to fathom. We all have our days and lucky C. gets to choose from so many cups.

    1. Cornelius wants to clarify that it was Mr. Tea who sniffed at the Votes for Women cup (he obviously hasn’t been around as much). This was also Mr. Tea’s first banana. 😀

  3. What a clever fellow to find in your stocking! Adorable. Perhaps next year, you’ll get the submarine tea infuser?

  4. Love this Jama. A tea drinker after my own heart. But I’ll take the barking one please. I think I need a new friend too. Who thinks up this stuff? Mr. Tea is hilarious.

  5. Now that I have seen the President, a bear, and a guy with pants full of tea together in a single photo, my life is complete! You always know how to throw a party, Jama. 😀

    1. It would be great if Mr. Tea was international! Especially since you now live in the land of tea :). Sshhhh! Don’t tell him; I still use tea bags now and then.

  6. Now look at that Mr Tea – such a free spirit, this man. Must have been love at first sight. I mean I would definitely fall for him, given the chance. I’m just glad Cornelius wasn’t jealous. I don’t think we have him here in Singapore – free spirits are a dime a dozen here. 🙂 I’ve been transitioning to tea, but switched back to coffee lately. Hmmm… now to find Mr. Tea.

    1. You’re so funny, Myra — Mr. Tea is totally flattered by your observations. He hopes you decide to drink more tea instead of coffee; he would be more than happy to help you in this endeavor, and fancies living with you in Singapore. 🙂
