(Like this one, located on the highway
between Montreal and Toronto.)

Well, you should pick it up and put it into a big apple basket.

Then what??!!

Make a really big apple pie, of course!
Why not go for the WORLD’S LARGEST?

(Serves 15,000)

Bring it on!

What you will need:

starving masses
12 unemployed masons to build the oven
a mixing bowl you can swim in
fire department to hose people down

for the crust:

352 lb flour
132 lb shortening
8 1/2 gallons water
1/2 lb salt
18 lb butter

for the filling:

320 bushels of apples
77 1/2 lb cinnamon
19 1/3 lb nutmeg
48 lb flour
9 2/3 gallons lemon juice
700 lb brown sugar
1400 lb white sugar

1. Roll crust in strips. Pat together in an 18′ round x 18″ deep pan.
2. Bake in 19′ round x 19″ deep cinder block oven at 350 to 400 degrees until done.

(This was baked for Hilton’s 1982 Apple Festival in Western New York. To see photos of the pie, click here.

After you’ve gorged yourself on pie, then what??!!

  1. Hi Jama,
I love all these apple posts. I actually grew up near Hilton and have been to the Apple Festival. It’s a very upstate NY thing to do and is great fun!
I am now off to copy the pancake recipe, as I plan to make it for dinner tonight!

  2. I am bummed! For some reason your posts aren’t showing up on my friends page. At least I can get to them from your page though. Hmm. Wonder what’s up with that.
