  1. Hello?
    Where’s Baloo?
    Look for the bare necessities
    The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
    I mean the bare necessities
    Old Mother Nature’s recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn’t be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin’ in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
    Then maybe try a few
The bare necessities of life will come to you
    They’ll come to you!
    Look for the bare necessities
    The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
    I mean the bare necessities
That’s why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life
Now when you pick a pawpaw
    Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
    Next time beware
Don’t pick the prickly pear by the paw
    When you pick a pear
    Try to use the claw
But you don’t need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
    Have I given you a clue ?
The bare necessities of life will come to you
    They’ll come to you!
So just try and relax, yeah cool it
    Fall apart in my backyard
‘Cause let me tell you something little britches
If you act like that bee acts, uh uh
    You’re working too hard
And don’t spend your time lookin’ around
For something you want that can’t be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin’ about it
    I’ll tell you something true
The bare necessities of life will come to you

  2. Baloo
We had this ….*LARGE* guy in the band Slippery Moon who when the crowd was dead or “bear” -ly there, he’d break into this song complete with “butt-wiggling” dance!
    Was quite a show!

  3. Corduroy makes me all sentimental inside. He was a favorite for my son. He still has those worn out board books and he starts high school this year!

  4. Oh, yeah, BALOO!!!
And, how ’bout Bear in the Big Blue House?
My favorite bear is an old Steiff bear… interesting, huh? He was mine, all mine!

  5. You almost changed my mind when I saw Radar’s teddy on the list! But it’s Paddington for me (over Pooh, in 2nd place). It always seemed to me that Paddington was more “mine,” since everybody loves Pooh (although probably not as much as I do!). I never hear anyone else talk about Paddington, and I loved his stories when I was little–something about his clumsiness and his dreams and tries and then his trying again, even after the marmalade messes.
Oh–I don’t think Fozzie was ever on Sesame Street, but I could be wrong. I think he was only on the Muppets! 🙂

  6. Yes, you’re right! I always get the Muppets mixed up with Sesame Street. Thanks so much for bringing that to my attention. 🙂
I’m SO glad you like Paddington best, because he’s my favorite, too — although I also love Pooh. Even for the adult reader, Michael Bond’s “very British” brand of wit is very appealing.

  7. As a HUGE Sendak fan, it pains me to not pick Little Bear, but it doesn’t get much better than Pooh.
