Brace yourselves.
I’m going raw and uncensored today.
No soup, no cake, no cooking. It’s too hot in the kitchen to turn on the stove. You know how it is.
I’m playing with dry alphabet pasta! Shocking, oh my, yes. And so dangerous. Chalk it up to May Madness.
Note: Tapioca pearls make excellent periods.
ABC
by Robert Pinsky
Any body can die, evidently. Few
Go happily, irradiating joy,
Knowledge, love. Many
Need oblivion, painkillers,
Quickest respite.
Sweet time unafflicted,
Various world:
X = your zenith.

So clever! I tried to rise to a writing challenge recently that involved starting all the sentences with letters of the alphabet in sequence, but the Muse must have been busy helping Robert Pinsky.
I have to go look up “irradiating” now. Irradiated beef at the grocery store has been zapped. Zapped joy? Can’t be…

Okay, I think I get it now. And now I’m STILL MORE impressed.

Mr. Pinsky is quite clever! Love how he enunciates all the alphabets, too.

Writing a poem that actually means something with the words in alphabetical sequence is definitely a big challenge. The equal sign is cheating a little, though.

Okay, you are way too cool. You even do the noodles (and the tapioca pearls) RAW!
Raw Pinsky. Whoa.

Love it! Did you really write that with ABC pasta?!
My apologies Jama, I just clicked the link for you from my page and it came up in error. I think I put a period or something after your link address. I will fix it!

I adore this clever poem. I’ve tried to write this type of poem and never been able to pull it off.
You are so talented with the pasta my girl! You should put this poem in the poets.org Free Verse Project Flickr pool: http://poets.org/page.php/prmID/541
Brilliant idea!

Re: Tanita Says 🙂
Raw pasta seemed the only way to present this terse poem!

Yes, it took me about an hour.
I didn’t notice the link didn’t work. Maybe I typed the URL wrong in my comment.

Thanks, Andi. I wish I had been able to get a clearer photo (problems with the flash).

I have to tell you I have never been described as irrepressible before. (thank you – now I have to look it up 🙂
Great ABC poem!
I fixed your link on my blog (sorry it was wrong yesterday!) and I checked it and it’s in working order now!

Too clever! I have come here a few times now (always tiptoed in and out without leaving a note), but always leave feeling I’ve had a treat. Thanks!
