Here is a very cool way to eat the alphabet!

Vintage Confections makes these wonderful (custom/made-to-order) hard candy typography lollipops in plain, block, or Greek letters. They make great favors for weddings, birthdays, etc., and are unique “just because” gifts. Also great for book launch party giveaways (author’s initials).   3. What a great way to celebrate the alphabet!

    I’m getting a wee bit frustrated here in WP land. I guess we lose the ability to really have conversations with people unless people remember to come back and check the blog to see if someone wrote back. I’ve tried the “notify me of comments” on several blogs but it keeps subscribing me to the entire blog feed of every posts, not just comments on the one I posted to. I already miss the notification part of LiveJournal.

    1. Hmmm. I thought you could subscribe to comments for specific posts.

      But I see what you mean. Very little back and forth conversations — I see more of that happening on FB. It’s asking a lot of people for them to keep checking back on a blog. The “conversations” seem to be drawn out from post to post sometimes, especially with regular readers, kind of like an extended.

      1. I’m researching this now. I think there’s something funky going on with my blog. I do see more back and forth on FB, which is one of the things I really like about it – everything is in one place.

        I’m going to try the notify me of comments here on yours again. When I tried it before I got your blog posts in my email, which was nice, except it confused me in Google reader because they were there too. 🙂

      2. Yours is a self-hosted blog so things may be a little different for you. You don’t get the comment notifications in a toolbar at the top, right? That’s helpful since you get notified when someone replies to a comment you’ve left, and then you can respond without clicking through to the blog.

It’s the only thing I dislike about WP – that you only receive comments/replies if you subscribe to them (but you have to check the box BEFORE you hit reply, and then you get EVERYONE’s comments to the blog). Or if it’s your own blog. I always forget to hit “notify me of responses”. On your dashboard, however, you should be able to click on that number on the upper right hand and see how many comments you’ve received recently, including any responses to comments you’ve made elsewhere. It’s still rather inefficient and puts the burden of remembering to check on the commenter.

      1. I guess there’s no perfect system anywhere. The toolbar number is helpful, though, since it now includes responses to comments you’ve made on other WP blogs — and you can answer right there without having to physically return to the blogs.

      2. Ooh, this is so frustrating. On Debbi’s blog and this blog I left comments and clicked notify me of comments. When Debbi responded to my comment on her blog, I got an email. I didn’t get any of this conversation in email at and wouldn’t have seen these if I hadn’t come over to check. That’s what’s going to be an issue for me.

        In my dashboard my comments are only ones that people have made on my blog.

        I think it is one of the differences between self-hosted and wordpress.com

      3. Oh no, sorry to hear that! I just don’t understand why you don’t get comment replies via email when you’ve checked that option. Maybe you could ask a WP tech person if there’s a way of fixing it?

  4. Well I have no idea why but all of the sudden today I got email notifications of all of these at once, just a few minutes ago. Maybe the WP gods heard me griping.

    I’m asking around about the comments not showing up in my dashboard.

    1. Well, I’m glad that part’s sorted out. The comments indicator in the top tab (not on the dashboard itself) is a relatively new feature. But you should be seeing a recent comment box on your dashboard. When I was first setting things up, I remembered moving those boxes around and expanding the ones I wanted to see.

  5. I don’t get you on the top tab. Do you mean the black bar that runs across the screen? I’ve got a “comment bubble” icon on the black bar but just like the comments in the dashboard, it’s only for comments on my blog.

  6. Yes, I do mean that black bar at the top. It used to only show how many comments I’ve received on my blog, but now it also shows when someone replies to a comment I’ve made on their WP blogs.
