Why I Wake Early
by Mary Oliver

Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who made the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety –
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light –
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day.
♥ This week’s Sunday Bear Hug is brought to you by Mr. Cornelius, who wishes you the brightest and most glorious of mornings, hoping you’ll carry this light with you throughout the week.

  1. Apropos for this AM as it is quite sunny and I am slowly shifting one hour ahead, needing to feel her cheeriness!

  2. Oh my, Mary Oliver is so beautiful in her words. “Watch now, how I start the day.” Posting those words to greet me each morning would be lovely. Thanks Jama, and good morning!

  3. I hope I remember this tomorrow when I am snuggled in bed not wanting my feet to touch the cold floor! And I have to say a special hello today- I spent last week with Jules and we talked about your wonderful blog- perhaps you felt your ears burning?

    1. Hi Stacey!

So glad you stopped by to say hello! Jules told me about how much she enjoyed meeting you last week :). It’s always wonderful to hear positive feedback from readers like you. Thanks so much for liking Alphabet Soup. Can’t wait to check out your blog. Sounds like you need some warm teddy bear slippers to keep your feet warm :).
