hotTEAs of Children’s Literature: Iza Trapani

When I immigrated to America from Poland at age seven, I learned English with the help of a Mother Goose collection. Little did I know that someday I would extend many of those nursery rhymes and have a successful career as a children’s book author and illustrator. I am currently at work on my 26th book.

☕ CUPPA OF CHOICE: I drink all kinds of teas. Lately, I’ve been enjoying hot cinnamon spice from Harney & Sons. It’s lightly sweet and zesTEA :-). Looks like Teddy would like some too. Should I offer him a cup?

☕ HOT OFF THE PRESS: Old King Cole (Charlesbridge, August 2015). Forthcoming: Gabe and Goon (Charlesbridge, July 2016).

☕ FAVE FOODIE CHILDREN’S BOOK(s): Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens (Harcourt, 1995), Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss (Random House, 2002), Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper (FSG, 2005), and Split Pea Soup (from the George and Martha stories) by James Marshall (HMH, 1974).

☕ Visit Iza Trapani’s Official Website and blog, In and Out of My Studio.

☕☕ JUST ONE MORE SIP: Old King Cole Book Trailer !

☕☕☕ CAN’T GET ENOUGH: Iza’s Twinkle Twinkle Little Star read by ESA Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti aboard the International Space Station!! Far out and too cool. 🙂

  1. I just read “Old King Cole” as part of our public library’s youth dept’s semi-annual new-book-discussion! I loved it, but it also made me sad because today’s kids really don’t know Mother Goose the way previous generations did, so charming stories like OKC aren’t fully appreciated – the kids don’t get the injokes.

  2. Oh my gosh – Twinkle Twinkle Little Star from the SPACE STATION! That is beyond cool. Wonderful to get this glimpse of Iza and her joyous work this morning (truly out-of-this-world – ha!). And if Samantha Cristoforetti ever needs a second career, perhaps she can hang out in the children’s section of her local library in Italy or read for book trailers?
Thanks, you two, for the smiles – and Iza, your studio looks so inviting! And clean….

      1. That was my husband’s childhood teddy, but Teddy prefers to hang out in my studio- rather than Rob’s (he’s a furniture-maker and blacksmith; too much noise and sawdust for Teddy’s tastes :-))

    1. Thanks, Penny! Yes, she did a beautiful job with her sweet voice and accent, and special effects 🙂 The woman is amazing! And did you know she set a record for the woman longest in space? Over 200 days…Wow!

  3. How wonderful to see Twinkle Twinkle Little Star read from space! No matter what other books I read to my granddaughters, we always have to read (and sing) I’m A Little Teapot and the ‘Twinkle’ book. Iza’s books delight, always. I’ll need to find these next two! Thanks, Iza for visiting, and Jama, for inviting!

  4. Ooh, I have a crush on this hotTEA’s cool name AND her book read IN SPACE and also her teacup! Sharing with bears, though, is dangerous… it becomes habit-forming so quickly, I’m told.

    1. Habit forming? Cornelius is a good case in point! 🙂

How can we not love a hotTEA with such a cool name and wonderful books and a Teddy and a lovely cup and saucer? SerendipiTEA . . .
