    1. Please click through to the sources for the egg cups you want more information about. Not all of them are for sale, and you should try to contact the seller/retailer directly. Thanks for your interest and for visiting this site. 🙂

  1. Love your review of Susan Branch’s A Fine Romance! Love your blog! Love the Food-Related Books for Kids! Love your Keep Calm signs! Okay, you got me! Nothing better on a snowy day in the hinterlands than to meet a kindred spirit and read a delightful blog! Thanks!!

      1. You are an excellent writer, and the entire review was so well thought out! I am a retired educational writer, who needs to be as organized and diligent as you are and write more, but three grandsons four and younger steal my focus. (That’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it.) Blessings on your day. Sara

  3. Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog; it never fails to put a smile on my face! I’m in Hawaii & wanted to tell you about the new recipe in the local newspaper food section: homemade spam! Not spam musubi but an actual attempt to make a healthier spam! Will try it myself once I figure out what “uncured ham” is. Much aloha–Li
P.S. Don’t know if the rest of the US will be getting it, but Portugese sausage spam will be coming to us soon! Of course, you could have outgrown your
    local fixations, . . .

    1. Hi Li,

Nice to hear from you! Homemade Spam? It may be healthier but surely it can’t taste as good as the Spam we’ve grown up with and crave. Portuguese sausage Spam could be interesting! I’m glad you told me about these new food “developments.” 😀 Seems Hawaii people are always enthusiastic about new food things. If you try and like either the homemade Spam or the PS Spam, report back and let me know!

Thanks for reading my blog and taking the time to comment. It’s so nice to hear from Hawaii readers. 🙂

  4. I discovered that you had used my poem “Ode to Tortillas” on your blog. Needless to say, I was deliciously surprised. I enjoyed your positive comments & those of you fellow bloggers. I just wished you had referenced the fact that the poem can be found in my book of poems: Ragged Borders, Hijo del Sol Publishing. Good job & I also enjoyed Joe Bravo’s tortilla art. Please share my comments with your bloggers and with Mr. Bravo.–Fernando Esteban Flores, 8/13/15

    1. Hi Joy! Happy Lei Day to you. There’s nothing like being in Hawaii for May Day. I can just imagine the beautiful and fragrant lei you saw today. I marvel at the craftsmanship of some of them.

  6. Hi. Your blog keeps getting better and better! Thank you for doing all the research and introducing us to old and new writers/illustrators. Can’t even remember what the original intent of your site(s) was (parenting, educating?) but have certainly enjoyed them for a quite awhile
I don’t know how often you get to Hawaii and whether you have viewed the current eruptions. They have been going on for so long that there are much publicized established routes to where the flow falls into the ocean.
Well, in lieu of good knees and doing the hike myself, I was happy to discover a 24/7 volcano cam: hvo.wr.usgs.gov. Different volcanic sites are monitored but I believe there is nice activity at the Kilauea and Halemaumau sites. Do tell me if you see any Pele faces!

  8. Hello Jama,
Last week, your header was an adorable illustration of many around the table. Where did this go?
    Thank you,

    1. Hi Maureen, My blog header art changes frequently — usually every week, sometimes more often. I think the illustration you’re referring to was by Sophie Blackall, from her book, If You Come to Earth. It may appear again in my header sometime soon. 🙂

  9. Hello! I haven’t received a post since May 2023. I’m still subscribed and there’s nothing in my spam folder, so I’m not sure what’s wrong. Have you taken a hiatus from blogging for a while?
    I miss the poetry!

    Hope all is well,
    Meg
