“Poetry is the journal of the sea animal living on land,
wanting to fly in the air.
Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable.
Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away.”
~ Carl Sandburg (January 6, 1878 – July 22, 1967)

Oh, so good. As always. Which prompts me to ask: Do you have your own collection of quotes from things you’ve read over the years, or do you pull from things that have struck you recently?

All of the above. I do have a little handmade book that I add quotes to, but I also print out stuff I see on the web, place post-its all over the pages of books, and search quotation collections.
