Art by my niece, Julia, who is now 9.
"Every child is born a naturalist. His eyes are, by nature, open to the glories of the stars, the beauty of the flowers, and the mystery of life." ~ R. Search
"It is at the edge of a petal that love waits." ~ William Carlos Williams
"I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers." ~ Claude Monet
"In the hope of reaching the moon men fail to see the flowers that blossom at their feet." ~ Albert Schweitzer

Both are very artistically inclined — they’ve taken private art lessons for several years now, as well as piano lessons.

They’ve been fortunate to be able to take art lessons, which have been invaluable in helping them nurture and develop their skills. And it seems they’ve also inherited natural talent from their mom, who is also very creative and artistically inclined.
Actually, both these pictures were done awhile ago, a couple of years or so.

The peak flowers are over, but we did stop to smell the lilacs on the way to the bus stop this morning, my lilies of the valley are still lovely, and the dogwoods, while ending, are still very pretty.
You always craft your posts with such care and detail. Thank you!

Our dogwoods are ending, too. When I walked down the driveway to check the mail, dogwood petals fluttered down on my head. Lovely! And thank YOU for dropping in and commenting!! I always appreciate your words.

Both are lovely! Your niece’s is light and sunny. Your nephew’s reminds me of an artist’s work. I’m not sure who, maybe Van Gogh? They’re both very talented.

You’re very astute to pick up on their personalities. Julia is indeed a sunny spirit, and Jared is quite contemplative. I know what you mean about the Van Gogh likeness — his sunflowers?

Kids Art
Wow – Jared and Julia are wonderful artists! [Does anyone feel as I do that at many county fairs that have juried art exhibits, the “Children’s Art” section is always the best?]
If Jared ever wants a customer for his art, I would buy something like that Vase w/ Flowers in a heartbeat. It’s stunning – honestly – go look at some of the studies Matisse did, and Jared is right there. I see hints of William Steig, too….I wonder, Jama, if Jared would give me permission to post that drawing over at my blog, The Drift Record?

I’m with you — the children’s section always delights me more!
I’ve emailed Jared via my brother and will let you know — I’m pretty certain he’ll be happy to let you display his painting on your blog, Julie. I see what you mean about Matisse. Steig? I keep thinking about Dr. DeSoto :).
