karen fields: of color, canines, and coastlines

Ruff ruff! The sun’s out and the water’s fine. Let’s dip into some of Karen Fields’s happy-making paintings.

Based in Altamonte Springs, Florida, Karen’s been interested in art since childhood. When she was little, she’d watch her dad at his drafting table in his attic studio. When he wasn’t looking, she’d use his shape templates to create drawings of her own.

Karen would later major in Graphic Design at the Ringling School of Art and Design. She then forged a career in advertising, print, and publishing. She’s currently a full time painter.

Working mainly in acrylics — either on watercolor paper or canvas — Karen’s work includes still lifes, landscapes, and abstracts. All are marked by bold vibrant colors and large brush strokes in her trademark naive style.

Love her cheery florals, whimsical doggies, quaint rows of shops, and picturesque sailboats on the water. Even before I knew where she was from, I sensed it could be a place like Florida — so many of her paintings make me feel as though I’m on vacation. Relax! And those dogs look like they’re having so much fun. đŸ™‚

Karen counts among her inspirations Matisse, Klimt, Kandinsky and other fauvist painters.

I find that painting gives me peace and puts me in a place where I can focus on the beauty that is all around us . . . Painting gives me the opportunity to give back to the community in different positive and meaningful ways.

Karen’s art has been collected worldwide and is widely available at various online galleries in addition to her Official Website Shop, where her designs may be purchased as wall art (canvas prints, framed, metal), and a wide variety of other products (tapestries, stationery, home decor, apparel). She also welcomes custom orders (contact her via her website).

Don’t you feel happier now? đŸ˜€

  1. I do feel happier now…which is usually the case when I visit Florida as I have family there. The cheerful colors are some I must mark to come back to next winter when I’m slogging through the dark, cold days. Thanks for the trip!
