bare, naked and crazy abcs

#34 in an ongoing series of posts celebrating the alphabet.

Nothing wrong with the traditional ABC song, but once in awhile it’s good to go crazy. Can you think of some head-turning words for each letter of the alphabet? When in doubt, go to the Barenaked Ladies for inspiration. Prior to listening to their “Crazy ABCs,” I hadn’t heard of “phon” or “qat.” And isn’t “vraisemblance” simply wonderful?

Goodbye mundane, hello pencil thin mustaches, a sip of cognac, warm brie.

What are you having for dinner tonight?

Filet of vraisemblance avec haricot verts.

Who brings your mail?

Monsieur Vraisemblance. Toujours un cadeau.

What are you writing about?

Vraisemblance, naturellement. Toujours, toujours!

See what I mean? It’s all good.

Knock yourself out.  And you gotta love a group who names an album, “Snack Time.”

Oh, gotta mention this: How do you pronounce “llama”? I always thought it rhymed with “drama.” Maybe it’s a Canadian thing . . . or the same people who think “Jama” rhymes with “drama.” ☺

Certified authentic alphabetica. Made by hand with love and beaucoup vraisemblance.

  1. Jama! Your blog is still the tastiest one in the blogosphere – whether it’s here or on LJ!

Very nice! Oh – and I had heard of “qat” because I play a lot of Scrabble! lol!

    1. Thanks for clarifying that, Barb — that’s what I thought. Don’t know where the BNL got their pronunciation from. 🙂 Don’t tell anyone, but the receptionist at the hairdresser’s calls me “jamma-lamma-ding-dong.” (She’s from New Jersey :D).

  2. I love BNL and have never heard this song! Thanks for sharing!!!

Llama sounds like drama and I used to work in a zoo and we had llamas (rhymes with dramas). 😉 Besides, the book Is Your Mama a Llama wouldn’t work as well if Llama was pronounced the other way. 😉

    1. Phew, thanks for further verifying. Every once in awhile, I think I may have missed something big everyone else knew that I didn’t. 🙂

You probably never heard this song before because Snack Time is a children’s album, and maybe not as widely played on regular radio.
